305 car, carb or TPI??
305 car, carb or TPI??
Hello guys! (as usual I am from europe so excuse me if My english is not perfect)
I am looking for a third gen, here in italy unfortunately we don't have much choice of "well cared" cars in good shape and almost all of them ar with v6 and 305..
I've come across a couple of thirgens with both carbureted and injected (Tpi) 305.. even if all of them are 90.000 miles or more...
wich one should I get??
the carb is "weaker" (like 170hp) but most people say that it's more easy to mod and have decent power without problems...
the TPI is a little more stronger (like 190hp) in stock form (you can feel that while testing the car) but most people say that modding it to decent power takes way more effort and money than the carbed version...
wich one should I get then? (I want one only with an auto-trans btw) I don't need a dragster but i would like my future third gen to have decent acceleration..
also should I get a camaro or a firebird?

I have an 87 305 carb Trans Am, and I think it's running just fine (aside from a few non engine related issues). I find carb systems easier to work on and rebuild (also restoring a 79 trans am). As for which third gen to choose... If it ain't a Trans Am it ain't worth it

I suggest a tpi setup. They have more horsepower and a lot of torque which is what you are going to feel. They might be a little bit of a pain to work on but it's worth it. And all of the tpi cars had a auto tranny. Unless it's an iroc or a gta. I also am a fan of the trans ams they were higher up than camaros as far as little features are concerned. But it really is about your opinion.

I both like TA and camaros, only test driven camaros up until now thoug,, some guys sayd that TA are more "soft" and confortable plus they look good even in "basic" form.. (on the opposite most of berlinettas camaros look ugly if totally stock)
getting carb on one side look easier and cheaper to mod (or replace the entire engine with a crate is also more easy), getting the TPI as far as "bolt ons" goes, looks more expensive than carbs (even if mabybe give you a little more gain for the bucks)...
