OK i had posted before in electrical but i'm not sure this is the case...1st
1991 camaro rs 305 tbi auto convertible

ok brand new starter probably not even necessary since that didn't seem to help...great battery holds great charge...now, when i attempt to start the car the starter won't turn the flywheel right away it clicks clicks clicks withinterior lights flashing i've been under the car and i can see where its hitting the flywheel and its giving the rusty flywheel a good shine, not eating teeth, but really trying to. i thought maybe it was binding so i tried multiple shims and have near about perfect spacing with a 1/32 shim about a paper clip gap. that didn't help. so i thought maybe an electrical problem so went through the wiring didn't notice anything to bad i did replace the inline fuse near the battery, wire looked a little corroded by inline fuse internally, i think it was to the alternator...bam it works! starts right up tried it probably 20 times in the course of three hours. NEXT MORNING CLICK CLICK CLICK takes about 10 minutes for the flywheel to turn, so i guess inline fuse not problem, again that afternoon about 20 minutes to start again. now should i go through and replace the wiring to the starter? or maybe the solenoid..it seems to be working properly ....when it works or is this not an electrical issue at all what would keep the flywheel from turning it seems like the starter is torquing over great? maybe the ignition control module anything ignition related that might cause this?...distributor...i am stumped and don't want to replace unnecessary items any input always very appreciated

 

When you turn the key, does it click once and nothing after that? Or is it a continuous clicking when you turn the key?

Single click and nothing usually means the starter spur gear isn't engaging the flywheel (hits tooth-to-tooth but doesn''t mesh). Constant clicking is low voltage- bad battery, cables, cable connection (the BIG cables- not the little ones- battery-to-starter or battery-to-engine block).

 

ok its constant clicking, and all the interior flashing will do this repeatedly so i keep attempting to start in short bursts until finally it stops clicking and starts like brand new like nothing was ever wrong. so this probably is electrical? maybe another battery or new batt cables i'm assuming battery cables as battery seems to have plenty of power regardless of how many times it takes.... i guess well ....for that surge of power or whatever is getting it to start. this seems strange to me as i previously had a camaro, older 1988, and it never had these kinds of issues...dammit should've kept it lol

 

Assuming nothing wrong with battery, you have a bad connection in the high current connections. Either the positive or negative battery cable is not making a good connection at one end or the other.

 

FIXED!!! i went through a lot of s#%t thinking it was something major...nope just lightly corroded connections on the starter...THEY DIDN'T EVEN LOOK CORRODED BUT THEY WERE WHERE I COULDN'T SEE...dammit always start simple i thought it was a major issue...well thanks for your input guys
