So im looking to go check out a car tomorow, and buy it from some one maybe. Have not seen the car, or talked to the guy in person but this is what he said...

"Was running great until on my way home from work the car died and the only way I got it home was to use very slight pressure on the pedal because to much would make the car die again."

Would really like to be able to drive it home, im semi-new to cars but know enough to fix a problem if i know where to look(sometimes). All help and helpful rebuttal wanted.

Not to be fussy or anything but, it might be useful to know what kind of car you're looking at.

Otherwise, my first guess would be a plugged catalytic converter or a banana in the tailpipe.

 

Fuel pump/pressure problem.

 

Sry, it's a 84 z28 v8 305 with an auto trans, that's all the info I got on it at the moment

Or is it just more than likely a fuel or exhaust issue.

It could be as simple as a plugged fuel filter or exhaust. Or, you could be chasing ignition gremlins. A bad ignition coil could do what you've described.

It's really hard to say if you don't have the car there with you to perform basic diagnostic procedures.
