i changed my oil yesterday and a leaky thermo housing. the thermo housing wasnt the right one instead of the hose going off towards the drive side it goes straight in front of the engine. i got the hose on there and there arent any kinks. so i changed my oil and after thats all said and done i start her up and i get this weird high pitched whirring sound. it gets faster as the engine revs. any ideas? im going to see if maybe the belts got wet with antifreeze when i was switching out the thermo housing. but it doesnt sound like belt squeal. forgot to mention this is the first oil change after 500 miles on the rebuilt engine.

 

well, unless your getting a knocking or ticking noise it's not oil change related.

If you got the belt wet you would more likely here a squeak, but a high pitched whirring noise? I know some gm alternators make a noise I might describe as a high pitch whirr when put under a heavy load.

 

i've heard of the alternator problem as well. but this wasnt happening until right after the oil change. if i could describe it better it almost sounds like im running a supercharger and you can hear the belt whine. only problem is there is no supercharger (at least not yet)
