Breaking the speed limiter?

Someone at my work said I can "break" the sensor which limits my automatic v6 3.1l at 112mph by putting the car on jack stands and letting the car bounce on the limiter till it breaks. Can anyone confirm this works, and would this mess up shift points since it's a automatic? Thanks in advance

ps : I still wanna be able to see my speed, and not mess up anything.

No. But it can be disabled by haveing the chip reprogramed.

Re: Breaking the speed limiter?

If you wish to break the speed limiter follow these steps. 1) Remove ecm from engine 2) Hit ecm with 10 lbs sledge hammer 3) Sigh happily knowing your speed limiter is no longer functional. Now an unwanted sided effect of this maneuver will be that your car doesn't run anymore but that is a small price to pay.

I assume they are talking about the governor in the trans that controls the shift points ; not the rev limiter on the engine.
Still wrong though

you forgot the part, replace intake with carburator, and see engine run again without speed limiter.

Re: Breaking the speed limiter?

The speed limiter in the ECM can be bypassed by reprogramming a new chip.

I know how to do it for free on a TBI, T5 V8, but no clue how the V6s are set up. But T5 V6s are probably the same & basically.....Find the wire that runs from the tranny that tells the ECM the speed & put a toggle switch on it.

ECM doesn't know how fast everything is going now, turns the Check Engine Light on, but does ZERO besides the Check Engine Light. Flip the toggle switch back on, the Check Engine Light goes all, all is well again.

Easy as pie.

Re: Breaking the speed limiter?

Just remembered where to find the article now, since TGO has dropped it from their site.

It was originally on TGO, but at some point, it was removed, don't ask me why.

Speed Limiter Bypass

EDIT: It is still here on TGO, I just didn't see it where it was.

Re: Breaking the speed limiter?

you should let the guy try it. have him sign a legal contract thats enforceable by a judicial court, and have it notarized by a witness while signing. The contract should include, that he'll pay for any damages resulting in breaking the speed limiter for drag racing purposes. And that he is responsible for the slightest damage. Then if he happens to damage your car, he'll pay for it, or you can sue him for breach of contract. ahhaa

my bimmer hits the governor at 139mph!
