Ok to have hood open?

Quick question, couldn't find it posted anywhere else, is it alright to have the heat extractor on my hood open all the time?

Mine is open, and I haven't had any problems with it. But I guess you could get water on your dizzy and that wouldn't be cool. I think you could make a baffle fairly easily to direct water away from the center of the engine.
