hey ive got a 91 RS v8 w/ auto trans. recently the engine speed seems to be way too high, even in overdrive (for example at 50mph its up around 4900rpm) the check engine light sometimes comes on, but only if im on the highway (i can drive around in the city all day w/o it going on). im really not sure if its the trans, rear end, or sensors or whatever else. any suggestions or similar experiences would help...(btw, its my daily driver and im pretty broke right now so i cant afford to do major fixes that i cant do myself.) thanks.

ooooh, man that sounds like a slipping tranny.

 

Does the engine sound like it's revving at 5000 rpm at 50 MPH or is that just what the tach reads? Have you read the codes?

If the engine is actually revving like that at 50, it won't be long until you need a transmission if it's slipping.
