troubles starting 86 camaro
i bought a 1986 camaro z28, it was having a hard time starting so i did some regular tune up procedures like spark plugs, wires, filters oil and while doing that i was changing the fuel filter when i came across the fuel line which had be twisted around a whole turn so i thought this was the cause of the bad starting.
i got the line fixxed put it back in and it wouldnt even try to start the engine would turn over but nothing. it started once and ran for about ten minutes before stalling its self out. it had black smoke so it was obviosly running rich, it should automaticly adjust and lean it out but it wasnt so i looked into what would richen a mixture and i heard that because of the year if there was bad injectors it would cause the good ones to push out more fuel so i changed them. before changing them it smelled of gas very strongly and now that there changed it doesnt smell like gas, but it still wouldnt try, so i have checked spark, got new spark plugs new wires, plenty of gas, checked timing, changed all the seals but it wont go it turns over slow even with the new battery, but it doesnt seem slow enough not to start. i havent been working with engines for very long so i dont know what else might be wrong causing it not to fire.
so if any one could give me a few pointers or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
and if i keep having problems would going the rout of swapping to a carburator be a good alternative, i dont care about fuel efficiancy, or if it starts in the cold because i wont be winter driving it although my dad had a 1972 firebird formula wich he drove in the winter which never had a problem starting and never had starting or running trouble in different elivations in other provinces/countries.

Re: troubles starting 86 camaro
Check the fuel pressure regulator. If the diaphragm leaks, it will dump fuel into the intake via a vacuum line. If the engine is being flooded with gas, it will not start.
Disconnect the vacuum line from the regulator and see if gas comes out when you cycle the key on. If it does, repair or replace the regulator.
