what are these two devices?

While "doing some work" to the AIR system, I found a couple of broken hoses, and they're attached to these devices.

What are they? Thanks.

The second one is your charchol canister. I cant tell by the pic of the first one but its something for your vaccum lines.

Re: what are these two devices?

Sorry about the blurry pic. It seems my camera's autofocus doesn't work to well in mixed light situations.

What exactly is the charcoal canister for? I see it has two hoses on it. One says Carb, and the other says Tank. One of those hoses (I think the one that says Carb) runs to that device in the first pic, which has a couple of hoses pinched. Lemme see if I can take a clearer pic.

If it helps, it says "Rochester Products" on it.

It stores the fumes from your gas tank and then feeds them to the engine when it's running. It's part of the emissions control system.

That looks similar to the heater valve...

If it is emissions stuff, then out it goes! I did trace a couple of lines. One goes straight into the carb (well, it was broken in 3 pieces when I bought the car :\), one appears to go underneath the car somewhere, and I can't remember if there were any other hoses.
