Fuel pressure won't hold after pump cuts off
Fuel pressure won't hold after pump cuts off
Hey guys,
Thanks for having me and hopefully you can help me. I have a 1997 Firebird. 3.8 Liter. My card is hard to start first thing in the morning or anytime after it sits like for an hour or so. I have checked the fuel pressure. I have 48 PSI when you turn the switch to on and the fuel pump engages. After the pump shuts off (approx. 2 seconds) the fuel pressure just drops. In less than a minute it has dropped to zero or very close to it. I am thinking the check valve in the fuel pump is bad? Let me know what you think. Once I turn the car over for 3 or 4 seconds it starts and runs fine once it starts. My other question is: If I have to replace the pump isn't there a procedure where you can do this through the trunk without dropping the tank? If so, does anybody know the measurements or a pattern to go by in order to cut the access panel. I have been told by several that this is far easier than dropping the tank. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance,
JMAC
