Hard starting tpi 305
Hey guys, this is my first post here about my new car. Its a 1988 formula ws6 305 tpi, 5 speed. When i et in it and start it, it starts really easy and fast if it is cold. But when i get in it after I get gas or leave the store and it has already been running recently, It starts rather hard. Its like it cranks for about 5 seconds instead of about 1 second. Any ideas will be great thanks guys.

I'm having this same issue with my formula 350. It's carb'd. Starts great cold but when it's heated up takes a few seconds.

Hydrolic: You problem is going to be different than 1badeagle's, please start a separate thread, gets too confusin' otherwise.
1bad: If you step down on the gas pedal, will it fire right up when warm? You might have injectors leaking down, leading to a bit of a 'flooded' condition when the engine is warm. (first start of the day, that gas has had chance to evaporate.)

No, it still starts hard if i push on the gas pedal. It just starts hard when its warmed up. You think its an injector problem. Could there be an issue with the fuel pressure regulator.?

Re: Hard starting tpi 305
I would think if it was the fuel pressure regulator, engine temp wouldn't matter. You could beg/borrow/steal a fuel pressure gauge, screw it on, and see how fast fuel pressure bleeds down when you shut the engine off... This isn't a perfect test though, as the fuel may be bleeding off back into the tank.
Next time the car is warm, press the gas pedal to the floor when you crank it up, and see if it makes any difference. (let off as SOON as the engine fires....)

Re: Hard starting tpi 305
The previous owner told me he thought it may need prom tuning since the ac and all smog are removed and it has been converted to a bw t-5 from the automatic. Does this sound like a possible cause?

Re: Hard starting tpi 305
I've got a 305tpi with a T-5 that does the exact same thing. I posted a thread about it a couple months ago but didn't get much help. I have checked the resistance on my injectors and they are all within range. How do I know if my injector(s) are leaking?
