Bypassing heater fan control switch
Ok guys I know this is not the best thing to do, but right now I am running out of warm days to drive my bird to work. Last winter we had a bad freeze and the climate control lever that does vent, defrost, a/c etc. broke. now I can't get my blower fan to turn on at all, is there a possible way to by pass the climate controls for the fan? This is only a temp fix until I can get in to the control panel and fix it correctly.

Re: Bypassing heater fan control switch
figure out which lead on the blower is power. you can find wiring diagrams, because i don't know of the top of my head and wire it directly off the battery, do an in line fuse to be safe (check your fuse box and find the fuse for A/C that will tell you what amperage fuse you need) and a switch so you can turn it on and off. but depending on how broken your control panel is that may seem a more complicated fix. It would work thought

Thanks a bunch, I just need it to work for now so I can get to and from work. I plan on replacing the parts ASAP.

FYI you can get a new contol unit on ebay for less than 10 bucks any day of the week. Might be easier to just do that.

Member to use heavy gauge wire, when you run a full 12volts to a fan it goes about 3times as fast and sucks down the juice. Use bigger wire then it uses stock.
Think I used 14 gauge wire and it gets HOT after just a few mins like 2 and I can smell it.
Need to rewire it myself, the smell of hot plastic is not cool.

Re: Bypassing heater fan control switch
I just want to say thanks to all of you guys for the help and ideas. For anyone who needs to do this here is what I have done (again this is a temporary fix until I get a new control head). Remove console covering radio and control head, then remove radio and pull all wiring associated out to the passenger side. First cut wire supplying power to fan selector switch (mine was brown with a white stripe per manual an on car), Second cut wire that supplies power to entire control head (mine was a lighter brown without any stripes on it), then splice a piece of wire of the same gauge to both and solder/seal it. Remember to put both ends of the wire giving power to the control head in the splice so you have solid power connections. Now the only thing is you cannot shut off the fan totally just turn it all the way down to low which is barely on.
