Well here's my problem, I have a 83 trans am that I'm trying to get running and I've ran into a snag. I'll start by saying that the car sat for about seven years. I am trying to replace my fuel sending unit but it seems as if I can't find any for my particular year. My trans am has the crossfire TBI 305. Does anyone know where to find one or are there any other years that would work with my particular application. Also does anyone know what might cause the fuel sending unit to be recieving low voltage from the circuit. Bad fuel pump relay maybe. Someone please help!!!!

 

Well a few things here:

1. The fuel gauge sending unit is just a standard 0-90 ohm sensor. Although there may be differences in how its installed between different years any one that will physically bolt in and has the 0-90 ohm sweep will work.

2. Second the sensor will not receive 12V. The way it works is the gauge and sensor act as a voltage divider which acts kinda like a tug of war over the needle to read fuel level.
