1987 Camaro 2.8
Hello all, I am new to the site and have been trying to find my answers without having to post but no good.
I just bought a 1987 Camaro sport coup berlinetta for 500 off of a guy that couldnt have it in his yard any more and so far it has been worth every penny.
Here is what is going on, he replaced the motor that was in the car(the 2.8) with a 50,000 mile 3.1 but the wiring wouldnt match the 3.1 intake so he kept the 2.8 intake, he was getting 36MPG after he did it, about 5000 miles later it started to run rough so he paid a guy to do the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, the car ran the same if not worse, now it is mine and I have replaced the cap, rotor, wires, plugs, maf and still no change.
Where do I go from here? Any help would be great.

Welcome.
Does it start fine?
Does it run rough immediately or when it warms up?
Any other issues like lack of power or overheating?
Check engine light?
Have you checked the timing?

It cranks for a few before it fires up but it runs rough from the start, the idle goes up and down untill it warms up then it just runs rough. I did not check the timing because I did not want to mess with that unless someone wiser in these cars told me to.

I forgot a few, yes the check engine light is on and it does feel like a loss of power unless you get on it a bit, if you just press the gas to go it will hesitate and stammer a bit.

I was just out messing with the car and my neighbor came over and said the reason it was running like it is is because of an exhaust leak in my pass. side manifold. Sound right? When I ran the codes for the check engine light it said MAF low power or something like that, I just replaced that part.

Sensor sounds more plausible to me.
I believe an exhaust manifold leak would be loud and hot (ie, pretty obvious).
