Starter trouble? Did I fry my ignition>

My car wasn't turning over and the starter was making a clicking sound. I grabbed a pry bar and jumped the leads on the solenoid. Same sound so I figured it was the starter. I went and bought a new one and was about to put it on and decided to see if the car was still making sound. Nothing happened when I turned the key. Did I fry something? Also while I have the car parked I unhook the battery ground. I reconnected it and was getting a low voltage when the ground was connected. Almost like there was a draw on the battery when I connected bat ground. The key was out of ignition, too.

Sounds more like a dead battery.
