87 balancer

I have a 87 iroc with the tpi and it has the small flywheel with the weight on it but my brother replaced the balancer a long while back and it is the netural type with no cut out like the 400 383 type balancers. Is the 87 1 peice rear main supposed to have the weighted flywheel but netural harmonic balancer? I know the flywheel is correct but I dont know if he put the wrong balancer on it. Any ideas anyone????

All stock SBCs have neutral balancers, except the 400.

For one-piece rear main seal cranks, the external weight that was built into the 2-piece rear main seal cranks external to the rear main seal had to be moved to the flexplate/flywheel. As Aperion noted, that didn't affect the damper, which is neutrally balanced still.

Ahh that explains the reson for the weighted flexplate. I always wondered about that but now I know. Thanks!!!!
