hello new guy in town ignition system problems
ok guys got some questions i just traded my 1989 toyota supra for a 1989 chevy comaro and it is not running at this time. i read up that the vats are a bizzatch so i fixed the problem with new resitors and new cylinder lock. i have this one problem i have only 11.93 volts to my coil pack and she wont fire so i check everything i baught a new ignition module check the coil pack check the conti in all wires everything is good but no spark. i want to know what breaks the ground and what actually makes the source of spark to the coil. i found out today that my distributer has magnets and the magnet field isnt very strong so im going to buy a new distributer on wensday and hope it work and i check the pick up coil and seems fine. hope u guys can help. oo i have th 5.0 rs Supreme Member

Re: hello new guy in town ignition system problems
Basically the way it works is that magnet induces a voltage that the ignition module picks up on. Then the ignition module uses that to determine when to ground the coil. 12V at the coil is fine as it should be with the car not running. First do you have the HEI distributor or the remote mounted coil type distributor? Replacing the distributor probably isnt necessary. Befor you buy a new one maybe a little further troubleshooting is in order? How have yoou determined you have no spark? Have you checked for a good grounds?

Have you check out your VATS system? The VATS system has a nasty tendency to kill the injector pulse when its not supposed to.
