The gauge or sender is shot. The gauge can be replaced from the front, without cluster removal. Perhaps a half an hour job--at least on a Camaro. The sender is a different story. A search might provide diagnostics for both.

Years back I had a Z34 Lumina that did the same thing. Turns out a piece of that plastic liner in the tank broke off and got caught under the float. Don't know if that's it, but a full tank of gas and a bumpy ride might move it if it is. Figured I'd chime in, it sounded like a simpler place to start.

Re: Gas gauge is stuck

ive personally had NO luck with factory gauges, my original one would either read full, half, or empty, so i replaced it and it worked great for about a day, now its either maxed out beyond full, or empty, or it says ive got 3/4 when i hit a bump juuuuusst right lol

Re: Gas gauge is stuck

Read the resistance of the sender. That should help identify whether it's the sender or dash guage.
