open air iat sensor

Wil the open element type intake air temp sensor work on my 87 iroc tpi? I have the MAF also if that makes any differance. The only reson I ask is because I think mine is reading wrong and if I change it I might as well put in the more sensitive and accurate open type right? It read like 110 120 on the highway at 60 and it was like 20 deg. outside so id say its bad.

TPI IAT is mounted in the bottom of the plenum so it measures the actual temp of the air there before it enters the engine; not the temp of the outside air coming in
How hot was your intake manifold that day????

I see your point and now that I think of it that would be the best place to measure the air temp insted of the actual air temp outside. Thanks for making me think for a few mins lol
