a few questions about TBI to carb swap
hey guys, just some background first. i've got an '89 RS with a 357 and 700R4. it currently has a 670 cfm TBI and edelbrock performer TBI intake hogged out to match the TB. i'm swapping it over to a carb. i have an edelbrock performer RPM with holley 650 vacuum secondary carb going on it. i'm keeping the electric fuel pump and getting a return style FPR, and going with a non computer controlled HEI distributor.
so here are my questions. first off, what gear material do i need to make sure the distributor has on it? i dont want to eat up the crank, and i'd rather take care of it before hand than put it in and destroy things and kick myself later.
second, i've heard that the engine harness on the passenger side of the car is all of the computer controll stuff for the TBI and if i replace all of the TBI stuff, i can pull the whole harness, but will that leave all of my gauges functioning? and will the fuel pump still function with that harness and computer out of the car?
i think that's about it for now. i'm still collecting parts for this, but i want to make sure i know everything about what is needed to be done before i jump in, it's gonna make me mad if it's all almost done and i cant drive it for a couple weeks because of something i could have found out before hand.
Thanks

Pump is primed by ECM. Pass side is indeed all EGR/TBI wiring and can be pulled. Gear material depends on block. Roller = steel / flat tappet = iron.
Don't be upset if you hit a road block. took me 6 months to finally get it right.

it is a flat tappet block, so i will make sure i get an iron gear for the distributor... can you tell the difference between the two pretty easily? will the iron gear be black?
