choke thermostat
choke thermostat
the choke thremostat on my carb is bad. my brother put the new one on but had no idea on how to set it. can anyone tell me what the setting is? a mechanic told me to turn the thermostat until the choke is standing straight up and down and then tighten the screws. he said that will be the proper setting. is this correct? the engine is a 305. would appreciate any help.

Re: choke thermostat
They should work generally well re-installed at the factory orientation-pigtail connector at six o'clock. They can, and sometimes do, however need to be adjusted slightly.
Set it at factory position and make sure the t-stat holds the choke shut when cold. Crank it up and after idling for 3-5 minutes the choke plate should be straight up. If it's opening too slow or too fast, turn it a few increments either way.
