Randomly shutting off car problem,,,, oil pressure switch problem?
Well my car has been randomly shutting off and I think I finally figured out why. I just recently switched to a carbed.
Ever since I bought the car, when the car was cold the oil pressure would be up in the 30s but when warm run in the 0s at idle but increase as RPMs increased.
So I read around and saw that it was the oil pressure switch?
The reason for this is because my car randomly shut down today. I got it started than opened the hood. I saw that my PSI was running REALLY low. around 5 PSI but when I reved it it would go up to what it was supposed too.
Since this is a carbed car, there is no ECM to power the fuel pump so the oil pressure switch is controlling it. And since it does not work right when it's hot, the fuel pump won't be pumping enough fuel it needs to be so the fuel bowls drain right?
Does this all make sense? Would it be safe to say I need to replace the oil pressure switch?
Does the oil pressure switch actually control the gauges in the car as well?

I'm a little confused about the details of what you have there, but why don't you just bypass the switch or monitor your fuel pressure to verify what is happening?
You might want to also see about getting some more oil pressure. You could band-aid the problem for a while by installing a higher volume pump. I would first verify what your actual pressure is first with a mechanical gauge and make sure the system is working properly - as in the internal bypass valve & pressure spring inside the pump.
Are you getting any knocking down there? or does your pressure drop to zero when you hit the brakes hard?
