97 Vortec engine, weird oil filter fitting?

So I posted this in my other thread but it looks like the interest in it has died down. I still need to know though, so I'll post it under it's own topic and hope someone has an answer.

This motor is outfitted with an oil filter adapter that runs an oil cooler line, which would be all well and good if it didn't get in the way of my headers. Pic here:

Any idea what the p# is for the fitment to use a standard filter?

You just need a standard oil filter adapter. About $10 from Summit and elsewhere. Or swipe one (with matching bolts, obviously) from an earlier junkyard motor.

The trouble is I can't find the standard adapter anywhere! I'd like to buy new if possible but Summit seems to only have remote filter adapters, as does autozone and CSK. Maybe I'm not searching correctly?

If I went to a scrap yard to get one would only specific vehicles have it?

Don't you just need the threaded center piece?

Im pretty sure this would work...

I dont think they ever bothered changing them on the Gen I motors, but perhaps they did at some point. But they're available.

That's a bypass though. I'd like to get it back to the factory style on-engine spin-on filter if possible.

That summit one in the pic is what u need the unit bolts up inside the spot on the block u have pictured oil filter spins on.The stock ones are the bypass style thats refering to the little brown bypass valve on the filter adapter. They make them with no bypass.I am not really sure if non bypass is better.
