Engine squeal
Engine squeal
1982 chevy Berlinetta.
When the engine warms up, it starts to intermittently squeal......It's hard to pinpoint the sound, I took it to a mechanic and it appears as though the sound is coming from behind the flywheel. However when I pull the left side PVC valve off, the squeal goes away. It's a brand new PVC valve with new hoses. It has a 350 engine with a holley carb.
Sure would appreciate any suggestions on this matter.
Thanks

... ok all smartness aside... when you shake your PVC does it make noise? you may either want to buy a new valve they're only a few bucks... or you could spray some carb cleaner in it and see if that fixes your problem..
You may also want to check your vent tube and make sure that's not clogged...

Re: Engine squeal
when you pull the pcv does the engine rev? Where is the squal coming from front back or middle of the engine? Have you tried replacing your serpentine belt?

Re: Engine squeal
Sounds like the valve in the PCV is sitting weird, creating the whistle or squeal. Kind of like taking a piece of paper, putting it to your lips and blowing, making a loud squeal. PCV isn't much to replace, just go ahead and replace it, especially if when you remove it the sound goes away. Good to go.
Edit: Or it could be the hose or grommet not sealing correctly, letting air squeeze by making a squeal. Let us know what you find out.
Maybe remove the pcv but keep it connected to the hose to the carb, then put the bottom of it in some seafoam, see if maybe its just clogged. Could be.

Re: Engine squeal
Hi, thanks for your reply..........It's a brand new pvc valve, and the hose from the pvc to the carb is also new.
Still the same, I'll do what you suggested, and if anything comes out of it, I'll get back to you.

Re: Engine squeal
Hi, thanks for your reply, no I haven't replaced the serpentine belt.
When I pull the PVC off the engine does not rev, and the sound appears to be coming from behind the flywheel.
Someone suggested hooking the hose up without the PVC or checking the air hoses.
I'll keep you posted either way.
Thanks
