A couple problems. Need some ideas.
The car starts right up when cold, but after it's warmed up it acts like the battery is dead and starts dragging and even ticking. At first, I thought it was a timing issue so we backed it off from 8* to 6*. It gave me no problems for maybe 2 days then it started doing it again. Could it be that my solenoid is just going bad? It doesn't really make any sense to me because as I said earlier it starts flawlessly when cold.
2nd issue is the car wants to "run on" after I kill it. This too only happens after it has been ran for a while and is warmed up. I started checking for vacuum leaks and found that the pcv valve grommet was broke. Could the be the cause?
Also before anyone asks, the engine is not running hot. I thought this was all being cause by too much timing but now I'm open to suggestions.

Hi there,
I have a similar slow cranking when hot issue on my 88 Iroc TPI and on my 81 Blazer which is a carb 305 but not as bad as yours. Searching on here reveals it may be the ground strap from the firewall to the engine (make sure it has a good ground) and from memory I believe some people relocate their starter solenoids in a cool spot or heat wrapping the starter motor..think the pros refer to it has heat soak.
With regards to the over run issue, you could try fitting a cooler grade spark plug, this fixed the problem with my Vauxhall Astra!

Thanks for the advice. I found that the nut was loose on the little wire of the solenoid. Tightened it up and it hasn't gave me any problems yet. Also the car hasn't done the run-on thing all day either. It actually ran perfect all day long until about an hour ago when the alternator fried. Problem after problem after problem.
