ok, I have a 1988 Pontiac Firebird Formula. I have a problem, and no clue how to fix it, or to the fact whats even causing it.
About 2 months ago, i had a new fuel pump installed, and everything for a while seemed fine.
about this time i started smelling fuel, and my gas gage would drop fast like i was burning fuel like no tomorrow. I started looking around under the hood. really didn't see anything. a week later, it started acting like it was going to die. I looked at my canister, and noticed that there was afluid coming from the one port that has a cap on it.( the one closest to the fender) I didn't check it for smell, due to everything at this time smelled like fuel. when i pulled the top hose off, the car went back to running fine.
Today, i came out of a store and noticed a puddle by my tire. i checked it, and sure enough, it was fuel. I looked at the canister, it was streaming out the fuel. The bottom rubber line is being eaten away by fuel, its making it where i do not feel safe even starting it up.
Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?

just a guess, but it sounds like the vent and return lines may have been swapped around when the fuel pump was replaced.
if it were me, it would be the first thing i would check.

or if u have headers and a non heated o2 sensor it may not be going into closed loop to activate it.
