Wont run after maintenance

I have an 83 Z28 that I just finished working on. I put new plugs and wires in it. I took the carb apart, cleaned it, and put in some new gaskets and that was it. The wires were fried and it was missing really bad. I also took off the egr and put a blockoff plate on it. Now that Im done the car won't idle very well (timing?) and there is a really loud hissing noise. Like a vacuum leak or something. Also it has a really weird smell once I shut it off. Anyone have any ideas? I'm into the S/C 3800 scene but just kinda got started with this Camaro so I'm not super sure on everything.

Thanks
Alex

I would make sure that you didn't get the firing order mixed up by some chance, this can afect the idle. Also is the distributor a vacuum advance type? check all vacuum lines for leaks and that they are hooked up.

If you leave off a vac line or plug it WILL run horrible. Make sure you look at all of those too.

Are you getting a SES light? The vac line I always miss when I take the carb off and on is the hard plastic line at the rear of the carb. Unfortunately, this is the most important vac line and your car will run like crap without it. It will usually light up the SES light.

Nope got that one. I found one i missed. When looking head on at the Qjet its on the bottom left hand side. A little larger than the others and I have no idea where it goes. Could i just block it or cap it? Somehow i think its emissions bs.

Yeah, I cap that one as well. I think it may go to the stock aircleaner to open the valve that lets hot air from the exhaust manifolds in when the engine is cold.
