89 L98 dies upon hard acceleration

I have an 89 IROC/350TPI auto. Recently, it started dying upon hard acceleration. It does not do it every time, but seems to mostly happen when driving at highway speeds and then flooring it. The car does not stumble or flutter like a fuel delivery issue would (already replaced fuel filter which GM said acted clogged. I live 3 hrs away and I am trying to figure this one out remotely). It's almost acting like something is amiss electrical like the ignition shuts down or something. I haven't seem a schematic yet to see what could be causing the trouble, and GM doesn't have a clue (go figure). This car has always been well maintained and has always been mechanically sound. Also, when dad took the car out last night, it acted up on him, and when he tried to shift the car into neutral and restart, it would not, but when he got it stopped and back in park, he could get it started. Here is a list of thing I've been considering:

BAD FUEL PUMP? - replaced 14 years ago
BAD FUEL FILTER? - replaced 2 weeks ago, GM dealership said there was some restriction
BAD FUEL PUMP RELAY? - like I said, car dies more sudden than a fuel delivery issue would present
BAD COMPUTER? - God, I hope not
BAD IGNITION? - not sure if something could be coming loose, shorting out, etc. This is a new problem to me.

If I left out something that will help troubleshoot it, let me know, and I'll track down what I can. Thanks.
