Leaky oil pan.

Anyone got some cheap ideas to fix it or something of a temperary fix so I can drive it till I get the money to buy the new oil pan? It's dripping from the drain plug nothing major small leak but the oil level goes down fast. When she was at pep boys cus I needed ther lift the get the cranked on oil filter off. (previous owner just screwed everything up) they said the drain hole for the plug seemed stripped. They put it in and checked for leaks and nothing. After 2 months it's finally started leaking again. A new oil pan is only 60 bucks so it's no big jus don't have the cash right now to spare. And quick fixs or smart ideas? And no I don't have a tap and die set to rethread the hole.

So wut to do?

Thanks

Re: Leaky oil pan.

You can try some plumbing tape. Another thing is to just re-tap it to the next size larger, and throw any old bolt on it with some teflon tape. You probably wont even need to redrill it, but you may get some metal shavings in there. Better off with a gob of teflon. Another thought would be some jb weld.

Re: Leaky oil pan.

Say it wasn't that stripped. You might even just need a new crush washer. Mine leaked once from the plastic crush washer being cracked..... probably not the issue...but you never know.

never was a fan of the plastic washers for some reason. i always grabbed one of the rubber impregnated metal washers. seem to seal better to me. maybe even a little black rtv on it during install for a bit of extra insurance. if the threads are worn, you can always get an oversized plug too

Re: Leaky oil pan.

You could always drain it fully and clean the pan and bolt off. Then reinstall the bolt with a new washer and some rtv under the head. Let it cure before adding oil.

I did the same thing with buying the metal/rubber washers.

Re: Leaky oil pan.

Maybe I'll try the washer and some rtv under the head. Cus honestly I'm not even sure if the washer is even ther anymore! I don't remember seeing it when I drained the oil when I did the oil change. I think it's just the bolt. I didn't kno ther was a washer for that anyways. I think it's slightly stripped cus the bolt still grabs enough. It's just a small drip. But over a week or to if sitting it adds up big time. But I'll try rtv and the washer till I get a new pan.

Thanks guys. Specially since I haven't been on for awhile busy moving and sorts.
