92 Z gas cap/tank pressure
92 Z gas cap/tank pressure
Just put gas in my new toy for the first time. When I removed the cap it let pressure out of the tank. Eveything is running fine is this normal on 92 Camaro's? Thanks Jim
Re: 92 Z gas cap/tank pressure
Yes, it is normal. The tank pressure relief valve is set to open at 1.0 PSIG. The tank pressure control valve (part of the EVAP system) should normally limit the tank vapor pressure below that point. If the EVAP canister is plugged or saturated with fuel the tank pressure control valve cannot regulate pressure. Of course, all the hoses and solenoid connections in the EVAP system must be correctly connected.
My '86 has done that since Day One. One pound of pressure in a nearly empty tank will equate to a lot of volume of air expelled when the cap is removed, and it may be startling unless you are expecting it.
