will only start when i let off the key

ive got an 84 Z28 its got about 150 thousand km on it its got a new msd ignition will turn over but will only fire when i let off the key its like the distributor isnt getin power till i move the key back from cranking position it takes a few tries but she will always fire it just randomly started doin this

Sounds like its not getting power with the key in the start position. See if you can put a test light on the power wire to the distributor to see if you have power while cranking.
