Re-assembly of heater control unit.

First off I think I found heaven! This forum is amazing, wish I found it sooner. I'm brand new but need some help. I have an 86' Camaro with a 305. I just swapped out the heater control unit in the center console. Everything went fine except now the assembly disc thingy is not staying together. I have all 4 parts together...the 2 rubber discs, metal star disc, and the plastic center post. All the hoses from behind seem ok but why is it not staying together now like it did originally? I searched but only found topics concerning issues with parts in the engine area. Any help would be great.

Re: Re-assembly of heater control unit.

There should be a retaining clip placed on the fixed stud which holds all the parts together. It looks a bit like a shakeproof washer.

Re: Re-assembly of heater control unit.

I don't see this clip you speak of. I have all the parts, at least I thought I did. The 2 rubber discs, the metal "star" piece, and the plastic post that connects all 3. Do you have a pic of this piece or a diagram of how this piece should be assembled? Took apart carefully so I wouldn't lose any pieces. Freakin frustrating as all hell!! Can I rig it with something else being I can't seem to find this "clip" you speak of? Thanks for all help and suggestions.
