Won't crank- Seriously need some help here guys
Hi everyone,I bought my 84 in the winter- it started fine when I test drove it and then when I picked it up. I got it home, parked it and when I went to start it again it just makes a clicking sound and the starter does nothing, I assumed it had a bad starter and parked it in the garage and started working on it overall.
So over the last 2 months I've been rebuilding it, part of the replacements is a new battery and a new LT1 starter, went to finally start it today and it's still doing the same thing- no starter activity at all. I checked the under dash fuses, the battery wires, and all connections, Everything is clean and tight.
The electrical system seems fine in all other regards, lights, radio, brake lights, etc. All it does is makes a chime sort of sound and then that stops too. Turn the key and the check engine light comes on along with the choke light and that's as far as I get.
Am I missing a fusible link or something? I looked all over under the hood and don't see any fuses or relays there- if someone would point me in the right direction it would be great- it's spring and I can't drive my car, pretty distressing after working on it for months.
84 Z28 305HO 700R4 Auto, most everything under the hood appears to be connected.

Thanks-
Mark

lift your car securely on jackstands.. with the key in the on position ... remote start the car at the starter, if it cranks... look into your ignition switch located on the steering column... this is different of the lock cylinder.. .

Thanks TT- can I bypass it to see if it's the issue? I see threads that say jump it- I tried that but it still does the same thing- or do I leave it plugged in and then jump it?

KN- I was talking about jumping the NSS- I did it both pulled off and connected with no change, The starter cranks if you short it on the solinoid so t would appear the ignition switch itself is bad. This can't be good.
Looks like a nightmare to replace. Oh well I started to take it apart and it's missing half the ball bearings on the shaft so at least I know why the wheel was so loose......
I really want to strangle the guy I bought this car from, there is so much wrong with it...........
Thanks

its not hard to get too really, and its not all that hard to get put back in. positioning is where you may get pissed. if the selector is not positioned right, it still wont work.
