86 305 tpi been sitting for about 1 year. Could use some help plz
Things I've done:
LAST TEST:
I've run in it Paperclip mode (A and B terminals), and it runs at idle for 2 minutes and dies.
Things I will try to do:
Borrow a fuel pressure gage and measure fuel pressure (work my way back from adjusting fuel press regulator to injectors to the fuel line to the fuel pump).
Anyone know what it means when the car INSTANTLY dies when you press the gas pedal?
- Starts on the first try always (new battery, good ol' starter)
- Never an engine light (SES)
- Automatically revs to 2k rpm, nice and clean
- Slows to idle but dies
- or
- I tap the gas pedal and it instantly dies
- or
- I give it alot of gas and it instantly dies
Things I've done:
- Checked TPS sensor with digital volt meter (within range and changes smoothly to 4.0v+ when WOT)
- I've replaced the fuel filter (no difference)
- I've unplugged the vacuum line for fuel pressure regulator (I have a BKS) and only heard the vacuum leak but no difference
- I have brand new fuel injectors from 3 years ago (venom)

On Probation
When you hit the gas pedal, you're opening the throttle blades, and commanding the computer to inject extra fuel. If no extra fuel, then massive lean misfire, and it dies. No voodoo there, just failure to get the extra fuel needed.
I'd suspect your throttle position sensor is to blame, based on it dying instantly.
But I'd suspect a computer problem, based on never an SES. When you go out in the morning, put the key in, and turn it, the SES is supposed to come on for a sec or 2, then go out. If it's not doing this, it could be a bad bulb, but it could also be a bad computer.

Ok, I put the key in and turn before starting it. I do see the SES light which is normal (meaning the light isn't blown out).
I've bought a fuel pressure gauge. However, it screws onto the port, but if i screw it too much it will just pop right off. Is this normal?
Once hooked up, I turn the car on and it will die. I do this about 2 more times until the fuel pressure reaches 35 psi. It stays at 35 psi. ( I even bleed the fuel pressure gage to make sure I have fuel passing through ). The quality of the fuel is also clean (no gunks or bits).
However, the car will still not idle.
Anyone know what normal fuel pressure is at for 305 tpi?
Anyone think it could be my fuel pressure regulator?
How do i know the computer is not glitching?
Please any help would be appreciated!

I have changed the distributor cap, rotor, and ignition module (with hi-temp compound) today. No change, can someone please help me? I think I will try another fuel pressure guage because the fitting does not connect right.
I have a BBK Fuel Pressure Regulator. The damn screw is always hitting the plenum intake. Should I tighten it and increase the fuel pressure ?
I have a working Fuel Press Guage, I adjusted it to 45 psi with engine off. Now the car will start and immediately die. Could it be my pressure is too high? or my pump is worn out?

I've fixed this problem. Turned out to be: Weak Fuel Pump (obviously), but I needed a new ECM too. Same problem after pump until I changed the ECM. My mechanic used another ECM to prove it to me. Ordered from RockAuto.com and installed and this car runs smoother than when I bought it (6 years ago)!
I'm using 3 year old venom 19lbs/hr injectors, bbk fuel press reg, new gas tank & fuel sending unit (o'reilly), & warlboro fuel pump. Thanks for the help!
