so it fires up :)

Well, i got my L69 started for the first time with my new cam, heads, intake, carb, ignition, headers, rockers, and aluminum flywheel today. I wish i had a video of how responsive, and how throaty it sounds. All the people that down talk 305s would honestly shut up for a minute.

A friend of mine just built a 383 for this 91 maro', and he said him self that he 'hated to say it' but my tiny 305 sounded more radical and responsive.

I have a few tweaks to work out, maybe i can get some advice from a few of you.

Dont we all usually wind up with a leak or two? Well maybe its just me lol. I decided to go with copper head gaskets because i wanted to go alot thinner to get some more compression out of the stock pistons, and slightly larger combustion chambers. Well, on the front side corners of each head, you can see that there is a very slight drip leak of coolant coming from the head gaskets. I torqued all the bolts to spec ofcourse, but im thinking im going to go a 1/4 turn on all the bottom bolts just to see what happens, i definitely am not in the mood to tear the motor back apart. The engine has fresh oil in it, and has been running for hours, and i have NOT found any coolant in the oil.. and my compression is 125 psi on all cylinders.. btw, yes, i put a thin bead of silicone around all the water jackers on BOTH sides of the gasket.

Another small problem; would be the heads i chose (World S/R's) are straight plug heads. The headers i bought made for a stock thirdgen, are having a clearance issue on the number 3 spark plug seeing there made for angle plug heads. I was told i can buy Accel shorty plugs, and use 90 degree wire boots, and should be able to get past this problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated on that also.

Lastly, for some reason.. i cant seem to get the fan to kick on when it should. If i turn the A/C on, it bypasses and kicks on. I replaced the temp sensor in the block, and made sure it was wired up properly, but for some reason.. it just wont kick on by itself. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks guys,
