is it worth switching to tpi from carb?
is it worth switching to tpi from carb?
i am about to by a new camaro, 355, 700r4, carb, all the basic stuff, i know ill get bored of the carb in a week so is it worth switching to tpi? the car runs really good but ive always wanted a tpi camaro, idk why, ive just always thought it was really cool
so if i do switch will i get any more power?
what all do i need besides a harness and the intake and plenum?
i posted this in the TPI section but didnt get any answers, was hoping for more answers here

If you're running good, I would stick with what you have... the TPI was designed for 305's, not 350's, so it really chokes them... you can spend hundreds on aftermarket TPI intake, plenum / runners & to me honestly, that money is better spent somewhere else... TPI has it's limits, or rather, will limit your 355's potential...
Not that people haven't spent $$$ and made TPI's fast... but for the gains you get, it's an expensive road...

I dont know the specs of your motor but more than likely you will lose power.. You deffinantly wont gain any over a properly tuned carb setup.
And if your motor had head work or a large cam in it you will DEFFINANTLY lose power

If its worth it depends on what you use the car for. If your competitively racing this would a very bad choice if its strictly a fun street car a good modified TPI set up would be a perfect. Depends on your build if youll gain or lose power. Most likely though what will happen is youll trade off some top end and get gobs of low end torque in its place. That being said unless you have lots of money, willing to put the wrench time in, and have a strong desire to have the benefits of fuel injection/ big block type low end torque its really probably not worth it. I would atleast run the carb till it started to give you fits giving you time to do more research on the pros vs cons. Try doing a search as this has been covered in depth many times.

ive had it laying around for years and just been to lazy to put it on anything, the engine is just .030 over with flat tops, (9.5:1 cr? around there) its just a fun street weekend driver, probably next year it will see the strip alot, i want to get it how i want it first, it does have a cam and i believe ported heads, not sure what ones but they are 350 heads, going to ported vortecs with 2.02 int 1.60 exh valves soon, i know this might be a bit small but its worth a shot

It looks a little small. Looks like it was ment for stock power level motors. Your 355 with good heads and cam is probably over the 275hp that setup is rated for.
