Help! can i run beehive/conical spring on Edelbrock 60879 heads?

Need some help or insight on this. We plan on running more lift, over 575" and wondering if we can beehive or conical springs. What do need to do to find out if it ok.

I looked and found other guys running LSx springs or comp cam 26918 springs on L98 heads but i dont know if i need spring locators.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA
Nick

Re: Help! can i run beehive/conical spring on Edelbrock 60879 heads?

0.575" is bunch of lift. U need to have the distance from installed height to coil bind plus 0.060" safety margin to prevent coil bind. So u would need 0.635" between installed height and coil bind of your springs to prevent your vlv train from eating itself. U need that clearance also between the installed retainer (bottom side) and the vlv seal (not just the top of the guide) to prevent the retainer from hammering into the seal/guide boss.

BTW there is more than one LSx beehive spring but i think u mean the LS6 beehive spring. U need to verify all the spring specs before u install them with any cam. Specs like pocket diameter need to match also. FYI 0.635" would be quite a surprise on a stock length vlv stem.

Hope this helps even though its kinda late - just found it today.
