Car: 1986 Iroc-Z
Engine: 355
Transmission: 700R4
Car wont start unless i give it gas?+ light issues
So yesterday i tried turning my car on and to my surprise...
It would turn on and the RPM would just drop all the way down to 0 and shut off.
It did this about 5 times, i decided to give it gas and hold the RPM up a bit and it stayed on good to go..
I took it out for a test drive when all of a sudden the lights that light up my gauges went out..and the ones that light up my shifter went out too.
Both at the same time. My headlights still work, high beams and turn signals all still work but the lights behind my gauges wont turn on or anything..neither will the shift lights..
What could be the problem?
Battery? circuit went bad?
Any help/suggestions on troubleshooting would be great.
I recently replaced the IAC like last week so i know thats not the problem, nor the spark plugs/fuel filter, all replaced last week.

When you replaced the IAC solenoid, did you clean out it's home in the throttle body? Did you test for correct operation of either IAC? - Plug IAC in, insert a paperclip into pins A & B of the aldl connector and make sure it moves out when you turn the key to ACC. Don't let it run too long, or it'll shoot out the pintle and spring.
As for the lights, check your gauges fuse, and your ACC fuse. Beyond that, check for broken wires, bad grounds, and other usual electric gremlins.

About the lights possibly its something as simple as the switch? The switch turns to the right to dim all the lights on the interior, to the right to brighten, and a click to the right for the dome light.
Have you checked where the **** is turned to?
Perhaps this switch is bad?
Just a guess... but worth looking into?

I fixed the gauges turned out to be something simple just a blown fuse. "inst Lts" or something like that.
A friend of mine put the IAC on but im gonna take it off and do the cleaning and do the testing. The previous IAC had a little ring that just crumbled to dust when i took it off so it was in bad shape.
Thanks for the tips im gona be troubleshooting this today.
