transmission mount keeps breaking?
transmission mount keeps breaking?
Since I've had my 89 irocz (305 TPI, with a "new" t5 world class according to the previous owner), I've broken 3 transmission mounts. One was the one that came with the car, which based on previous "parts" on it, I'm guessing was a piece of crap. The other was a standard rubber replacement, and then I asked for a polyurethane transmission mount. That seemed to last it for quite awhile, until recently. I havn't gotten on the car really much at all due to some other things I'm working on but I'm noticing that the shifter is moving more than it should (aka barely at all). When I pull it from 1st to second and give it a decent amount of gas I can noticeably feel the shifter move up in my hands. If I just floor it and watch I see the shifter move a bit as well.
I havnt had a moment to crawl under and check the mount, but I'm going to assume it's broke again or in the process of breaking.
That said, what could cause this to break so often? I do not beat on the car enough to cause this kind of damage.
Thanks,
Bez

Re: transmission mount keeps breaking?
Do the trans have the weight hanging off the tail shaft, pointing towards the back???
It suppose to keep it from jumping around allot, that id assume could help break a mount sooner.
lots of folks remove them as they weigh allot but it wasn't put on for nutin....

Hrm... I'll check the motor mounts, I was thinking that might be a cause. I'm totally unsure about the weight though. I'll crawl under and take a peek to be sure... but knowing the previous owner wouldnt shock me if its not there.

Tried to take a quick pic of mine but with the Alston SFC installed now I can't see to aim the camera.
Though you can't miss it, several plates of steel rivted together, it bolts to the tail shaft and hangs off / stick out a good ft behind the trans shaft, and could only be some type of counter balance to keep it from rocking up n down with a shift.
