You guys think this 305 is worth $450?

1985 305 chevy V-8. Original engine still in the car and running well. Upgrading to larger engine. 92,600 miles. No problems. Complete strong running engine as shown from air cleaner to oil pan.
Extra's are: World Quest 305 Torker heads, Edelbrock Air Gap Performer intake, Edelbrock 600cfm elec choke Carb, Comp Cams H262 cam & lifters (have tag), Edelbrock Air Cleaner, 10mm wires, Accel Distributor (w/high output coil) and chrome valve covers. All extras installed at 89,000 miles.

Will not come with intake, carb, distributor, pulleys, headers, flexplate, or starter. Guy claims it puts out around 300hp if not more. Think it's worth $450?

for the same money you can get a roller 350 from a junk yard and most of the time they just need a glaze break on the cylinders to look like new again. When you buy an engine from a guy like that you cant tell if its be ragged on beat up and getting ready to fail, though the heads are worth some of the money. But if you know and trust the guy thats another story.

Re: You guys think this 305 is worth $450?

Assuming for a minute you got it ...

Prices of new goods it will be missing:

Intake $200
carb $250
headers $250
starter $100
flywheel $125
dist $125
accessory mounts ?

That puts your cost at over $1000. Should easily find a 350 carb to pan for that.

Those heads might be worth something, but haven't heard anyone speak much in the last couple years about Torkers, and even then I thik folks were talking about Torker II's.

300hp is possible with a 305 (rare, but possible), but I don't think that one is making 300. I'd have to see a dyno slip on it before I believed that.

$450 is not a bad price for a running V8 I guess - but my 350 carb to pan used was only $600, although I doubt it's making 300hp either.

I'm not saying it's a bad deal - just thinking ahead of what you'll need and the cost associated so you know, since the guy is keeping all the stuff off it.

Re: You guys think this 305 is worth $450?

IMO the heads are the deal breaker/maker on this. If they can make 300hp then yes.

It's a decent deal if you're looking for something you can drop in and don't have to hassle with building (given its in good running condition, compression, ect). It doesn't matter what displacement it is if you don't plan on upgrading it and just looking for something to drop in with some HP.

Hopefully someone with experience with those heads will chime in on this. I've only heard bad about them but don't know personally. Everything else could easily support 300hp on that combo.

Either way I would try to talk the guy down that is a lot for how many miles it has and what you need to replace. Though you probably have most if not all of what it will need already.

Re: You guys think this 305 is worth $450?

Thanks for the input guys. I do infact have everything I'd need to make it complete. I just know that 305's don't really carry a good name so that's why I wasn't crazy about it. I'd try to talk the guy down a bit but if not I'll just continue my search for a 350.
