Car Hesitates to accelerate?

Well i recently noticed that when i first take off for the day, the car hesitates to accelerate.

I press down on the gas, and like 2 seconds later the car decides to accelerate.

It only happens when i first take off?

I have other issues that are still ongoing with this car

-Rpm goes up then down and car shuts off when i turn the AC on, 1/5 start ups?
-Same happens but rarely without the AC on. Maybe about 1/20 start ups

I had a friend look at the car and he told me that it could be because the battery on it is too small? The previous owner apparently switched out the original battery with a Malibu battery lol.

Could that really cause all of those symptoms? I want to say its a vacuum leak somewhere but the idle rpm is never erratic or anything. Its always at highest 1500 lowest at 500.

I hooked up the car to an obd 1 scanner and it gave me a code 44, and told me the car was running lean. My car has no muffler or catalizer so im guessing that could be the reason for the 44??

Any help troubleshooting this would be great.

Re: Car Hesitates to accelerate?

What car are you talking about?

There's no sensors after the O2 sensor, which is in the drivers side exhaust manifold, so any modifications after that won't set off a SES light or cause any lean conditions.

A faulty O2 sensor can trigger 44 among other things. But as for causing starting problems it's not even used to start the car so it's probably not the problem.

ah guess i got caught up in the post and forgot the car details.
Its a 1991 camaro RS 305 TBI

The previous owner told me he tried replacing the 02 sensor and the code 44 still appeared. So im pretty sure the 02 sensor isnt the problem.
