ok, here is the basic info, it is a 91 RS with the 305 TBI and auto trans.
now the issue: i will be driving and the Service engine soon light (SES) will kick on for a second then kick off. When it kicks off, the car bucks (jerks and rps drop for a split second). it just does it at random times while cruising and under acceleration both.
Other issue is sometime when i turn the key on the SES light will not kick on and the car will not start. it will take a random amount of time then it will work normally again...
would appreciate all info to help out. Thanks

first issue; use a paperclip and pull the codes, theres a how to on the site.
second; it could be vats, it could be your ignition switch, when you turn the key forward and it doesnt start are you hearing your fuel pump priming? that little pellet on your key is the devil, i bypassed my passkey system and just got a new key cut to avoid the hassle

the first issue sounds EXACTLY like a fuel filter. if you haven't changed it, do it asap
ok this one can be tricky to explain i see.
The Vats is fine, when i put the key in and flip it to run, if the SES light comes on the car starts perfect. Sometimes when i flip it to run the SES light does NOT come on and the car will crank all day but not fire up. When it is doing that i can shoot ether in it and it will fire up and run untill i let off the throttle. then the idle drops and it stalls. once it stalls if i shut it down, then flip it to run again if SES light is on i am good, starts fine. If SES light is NOT on, repeat process lol. i am stumped.
Thanks on fuel filter, i just got the car 2 days ago.... not sure when it was done last. will do it tomorrow and post an update.

FYI, a fuel filter problem will not store a code. the light will flash almost randomly, but not code will be stored
Well i think i figured it out, the power distrobution block by the battery was not hooked to core support like it should have been. while i moved it to attach it i heard the fuel pump flicker off and then on again. So i took it off cleaned em all off with a wire brush and put it all back together. Drove it all around and it has not had either issue again since. have gone roughly 100 miles today. I am guessing it would kick the ECM off when it would loose connection and hence no SES light and why it would flick off and on while driving.
Thanks for the help everyone.
