hey guys, started the car today and noticed loud noise coming from passenger side valve cover, right by the firewall, oil level is fine, i took it for a short drive and its running alot hotter than usual, and when i come to a stop it wants to die and then revs up a bit to keep it running and repeats itself...

its a rebuilt 350 in my 84 Z28 with maybe 10,000km since rebuild, could this be carb related? not sure where to start but need to fix asap...

 

ok then... i pulled the valve cover to check if i can can see anything wrong but dont relly know what to look for, how much play should the valves have? is there a tork to them?

 

Run the car with the valve cover off and see if a rocker arm or two arent moving as much as the others. The nut could have loosened up or a lifter or cam lobe is tore up.

 

if i start the car with the cover off wont oil go everywhere?

 

Yes but you can compare all the rocker arms and see if one is move as much. You can do it with the car off and check the push rod for to much play.
