I have a few questions

I have an 84 Firebird with a 305.

1. Sometimes when I turn off the car the engine keeps running. It sputters and eventually shuts off. What could cause this?

2. When I shift into drive my gas pedal becomes very stiff. If the car is in park the pedal works just fine.

3. The person who had the car before me installed a B&M shifter. You really need to pull hard on it to shift. Is this normal?

4. The car drives slowly until it reaches 2800-3000 RPM and then it finally shifts gear. I'm wondering if the previous owner installed a torque converter that could be causing this. If not then what else could it be?

I'm not mechanically inclined and I just got this car so I'm sure this wont be the end to my questions. Any help is appreciated.

Usually caused by timing advanced too much, idle set too high, or combustion chamber deposits.

That's a weird one. About all I can say is check the throttle cable for damage or wear.

It is, but it shouldn't be. The cable is very long and has to be wrapped in a loop on top of the transmission. Why they couldn't use a short cable that goes directly to the tranny has always baffled me.

Probably a misadjusted TV cable.
