14 years old? Good for you kid. I'm sure most of your buddies are staring at their Playstation with thier mouths hanging open while you are playing with a real toy.

A few more tips:

The engine ticking could be a minor problem. Engines sometimes tick if they've been sitting a while.

If the car is sitting, keep the tank full to prevent moisture. Rust can damage your sending unit or fuel pump. And make sure you add stabilizer to the fuel. Your fuel guage problem might be related. Erractic readings is usually a problem with the sending unit.

well for he people dissing jiffy lube employees lol i am a state inspector here in conroe at store 1921, filters go on dry, oil is supposed to be changed every three months or 3,000 miles WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.(you can go 5,000 on some oils, some even suggest 7500 but i dont like that) i cant imagine waiting a year. i realize the tight money situation but jebus. the only filters that need to be "primed" are diesel oil filters that hold a quart to a quart and a half. but mind you these trucks take 10 to 16 quarts of oil.
but yeah just had to say some thing about that jiffy joke.

I have to agree with the 3000 mile issue with oil changes. Especially with 3rd gens. Even if oil is not broken down, it gets dirty. That's why I change mine. Well before it is too dirty.

Especially with 3rd gens?
What does a Third gen have to do with it? Curious.

Lay off, texascat. Flinging out the sarcasm is a low brow game.

Older engines especially with carbs do not run as clean as newer tighter engines. Impurities in the oil concern me more than oil break down. That's what I meant.

OK, I was just curious as to why you said especially Third Gens. All my vehicles are fuel injected, Third Gen too.

If I am wrong, please correct me. A friend of mine bought a new truck, and it required 5w 20. They are not just fuel injected, but they have tight tolerances. That's what I have been taught.

No, I'm not trying to correct you. Tight tolerances are in all new engines. My DD is a 98 Vortec 350 with 81,000 miles on it. I've ran Royal Purple in it since the second oil change, 10W 30. My wife's Tahoe is a 5.3 and it also runs RP 10W 30 same deal. I run Mobile 1 in my two lawn mowers. Which get changed once a year. The two Chevies get changed every 5,000 miles even though the oil is still clean. The Bird once a year because I don't put that many miles on it. Now if the oil looks dirty even the least little bit when I check it, it gets changed sooner.

thank you, and actually sadily no... most dont even seem to aknowledge the camaro the slightest bit, highschool should be better haha. Maybe also it might have something to do with how I tower over them at 6ft tall haha

Im assuming your thinking of an ticking more like from an bad lifter or something, as far as I know its not something like that, its comming from one of the engine accesory's if I remember correctly.

Also in most case's the car usually doesnt sit longer then a few days, unless if its down for awhile or the weather is extremly crappy but yah, I try to start her up and pull her out into the driveway every day.

Re: oil change procedure and recomendations, little hazy memory on procedure

Update on the effect of the two bottles of seafoam...

I LOVE THIS STUFF! Right away I was impressed, im even MORE impressed as time has come. The seafoam helped me idle SO much, my car use to idle pretty high, all the time, it would lower itself gradualy as it was driven/warmed up, but it still would idle at about 1grand, well after the initial (removing of seafoam) and oil change, the car started up smoother and didnt sound as choppy like when running, so I was an happy camper, well over time I noticed the car started idiling lower after warm up, something close to an safe 500rpm, and I love it because the car doesnt cause so much noise (even with an mufflest exhuast) and just makes the car feel so much more reliable. Thats my opinion on this stuff, I cant wait to try some on our durango

And don't start your engine every two weeks. Next to drag racing, the hardest thing you can do to your engine is cold start. Only warm it up when you're ready to change the oil, change it, then leave it sit.
10W-30, not 5W-30..
.. any filter but FRAM (Purolator L10111 is more than fine)
and no you DONT need to put Oil int he filter, why would you. It gets oil in there real fast.

btw, where is the oil filter on the V6 ?

There is a Jiffy Lube lterally across the parking lot from my house/apartment complex, Unoversity Ave and Beach Blvs in Jacksonville, FL. I dont know the store #. But are you aware how many people report horror stories that happen to their vehicle maybe not at your particular establishment in "conroe" in another state (Im from Monroe, NY, zip 10950 originally now in in Jax FL.. odd) but yeah the 3000 mile advice seems prudent to these thrid gens. Especially carburated engines.

Im on an oil forum a LOT and they think its pretty much outdated, what with SM and SN oils coming out now, and they think 10W-30 is outdated, but i like 10W-30 for the camaro, thicker if its fuel diluted (why would it be ? 10W-30 for me thanks) and not "Ramming filters on as tight as one can get them on" as certain Jiffy Lubes (never been to yours, havent been to one in about 7 years, had BMW and they werent very knowledgeable, Jersey City NJ) ..

10W-30.

Whats wrong with 5W30? GM engineers told me to use 5W30 in my car, so thats what I'm using. And enough Jiffy Lube bashing, their service is only as good as the people running the place. The one I managed was an honest shop that did things right and all we heard were horror stories about the one the next town over.
