What long block is this

So I have an 89 camaro rs 305 tbi

The last owners dad 4 years ago before he got tired of it and let it sit put in a 305 long block now im wondering what type of long block and what type of heads would it have on it.

He also put true dual exhaust on it and it sounds lame like two 4 cylinders running.

What type of heads do 305 long blocks normally come with and how would you know?

My block and intake and a poop green type color.

His dad died his son enharited it and didnt drive it because he had better car then finally sold it to me. I have all paperwork and all it says is engine company its from and gmc 5 and another paper says 5.7 on emissions but doesnt matter because my casting says 5.0 and we dont have emissions out here.

Re: What long block is this

Long block is a term to describe an engine with a complete rotating assembly in it and heads. It may or may not include an intake manifold or tin (oil pan, valve covers etc)

Short block is an engine that includes the rotating assembly but doesn't come with heads etc.

If you have an engine, casting numbers can tell you some basic info about the block or heads. At least a casting number can tell if the block is a 305 or a 350. A suffix number stamped on the pad in front of the passenger side head can tell a lot more information about the block. If the engine has ever been rebuilt, there's no telling exactly what's inside it without tearing it down. Casting numbers for the heads are under the valve covers.

If the casting says 5.0 or 5.0L then it's a 305 block for sure.

Re: What long block is this

first, the exhaust Hooker, Hedman and others offer universal-fit H-pipe kiss in all the popular tubing diameters, it's well worth doing.
Not doing a 350 is easily explained if he didn't want headaches from the TBI system.
The most important thing now is to pop the valve covers and get the casting numbers for the heads.
