Wont kick down
Hey everyone, this is my first post and I hope its in the right area. I apologize if it's not.
I just bought an 87 camaro with the 305 from a friend who is a member here. We put a new trans and clutch in the car and it drove great last night. However, today it started reving itself up to around 2.5k and wont go back down unless I tap the throttle. Once I tap the throttle the engine will decel. but as soon as I downshift or hit the gas at all the RPMs come back up.
Any ideas? I was thinking the electronic choke is malfunctioning. Also, my lights have been flickering very slightly in the low RPM so I'm thinking a new alternator is needed, can a bad alternator cause this other problem I'm having?
Thanks for any help!

Re: Wont kick down
Alright, did some more investigating. When running, choke shows ~12 on the volt meter, so from what I understand, its getting enough power. Not rulling out the choke quite yet though.
Went out and drove it some more and discovered its not sticking right on 2.5k, if I take it up to 3k it will stay there and come down VERY slowly, so maybe the spring that pulls the carb closed when you left off the gas is shot? Could it really be something this simple?

have you taken off your breather to see if maybe you need to clean up your butterflies. there might be carbon build up or a burr on them that doesnt allow them to close all the way.

Re: Wont kick down
Thanks for the reply Stony. Turns out it was the throttle return spring...so I guess everyone now and then when something goes wrong it is an easy fix!
