Walbro 255lph Install, priming but no fuel?

I installed a new fuel pump today in my 87 Iroc with 350 HSR and heads and cam. The stock pump was working when I replaced it, but I wanted to ensure that my combination wasn't starved for fuel.

I did the install the right way and dropped the tank and all. It seemed like a plug and play situation. Everything went in easy....as easy as it can be. Well when I had replaced everything, I turned the key and the pump primed, but wouldn't start. There is a little fuel in the tank, but none comes out of the feed line.

I disconnected the line in the engine bay first and nothing, then at the tank and still nothing. I am stumped; any help would be appreciated.

Pump wired backwards, not enough fuel in tank, hose between pump and outlet tube separated?

RBob.

Re: Walbro 255lph Install, priming but no fuel?

I was thinking the pump could be wired backwards, so I took it back out and checked but the connectors can only go on one way. I double checked anyway though and it looks correct.

I put the pulsator back on the new pump, should I take it off? It was kind of loose but both the pump and the fuel line were connected. I had a little fuel left in it and it was enough for the stock pump to run off, but it may not be enough for the Walbro, I'll put more in tomorrow.

I just want to make sure I hit all the options before I replace again, cuz it's a pain to do all that work and it not work right!

Thanks.

Well, I pulled the Walbro and checked it with a 12v source. The stock pump pushed out lots of air; the Walbro...nothing! I thought of everything I could, but just couldn't justify putting it back in and it still not work. So, I put the stock one back in. Maybe the new one is defective.

By the way, the PO had done the old hack job of a hatch deal, so when I get a replacement Walbro I guess I'll just use that.

$50 to use the lift bay for a day and a half....just to look at the stock pump and put it back in!! Awesome!

Just to update. I can't get anywhere with Summit because I'm past the 90 days, so I did one more test on the pump. I put it to the battery and put the end in a cup of water; what do you know, it blasted a huge stream out. So, I guess this means that it is working right. Now to figure out what I did wrong when installing it??

Yeah, I got it figured out. Must of been operator error? It only took me about 2.5 hrs. the first time. The hardest part is getting the tank out after everything is loosened and ready to go. My time might be a little biased though, I used a car lift instead of working on the ground.

I have access to a car lift so that should be cool. I'm just worried mostly about the rear diff falling lol

Wasn't too bad, I used a muffler jack I believe to help hold things up once I released the shocks and all. If you have the lift it shouldn't be that bad. Good luck!
