code 14?

i have a code 14.. my fan stays on all the time though and the engine never gets very warm, it happened after i replaced my iac, i'm assuming i bumped something the wrong way, both the temp sensors on my heads are fine so i'm not sure where there would be another one?

Re: code 14?

While I can't tell you what is wrong, hopefully the following will help you with your diagnosis.
There are 3 sensors:
1.) Left head gauge sensor - has no connection to ECM, or fan(s) only temp gauge
2.) Right head fan relay switch closes @ 238°F and sends a fan request signal to the ECM.
3.) Center front of Intake; ECM Coolant Temp Sensor (CTS) controls fan at programmed settings.

Also A/C high pressure switch controls the fan - closes @ 233psi and opens @ 185psi.
Even if the CTS is working properly it's still up to the ECM to turn the fan on providing there's nothing wrong with the ECM Fan driver that turns the fan relay on.
Because the Relay, and Pressure switch on a single fan system are in parallel they can override the ECM and each other.

It would be nice to know your findings.

Re: code 14?

well... about the A/C, i just took off it's V belt, the R12 is low and its a bit late in the summer to get it vacuumed out and retrofitted, and I only have 1 fan in the front and it's an 85TA if that makes a difference to what controls it?

and interesting thing as well... my engine is running a bit rich, i'd assume if the ECM's temp sensor was saying it was always hot (thats the code 14 right?) then why would it run rich? the idle is 200rpm's higher as well but i'd assume thats from the new iac not being crusted with carbon and it running rich

Re: code 14?

Did you perform the IAC procedure, or did you just replace it?

Re: code 14?

i was going to reset my idle after i figure out this code 14? my idle was perfect before replacing the iac it was just... slow to respond, it would take it 5-10 seconds of sitting at at stop light for it to drop down to 600, now it idles at 800 and it drops right to it, its not at 1500 so it's not my biggest concern at the moment
