Random RPM increases, help.

I have a 90 Camaro RS. Alot of work done on it. A few months ago I took it in to have some stuff done and that included a "Idle Down". They Idled it to 10 (x100 on RPM gauge). It was good for a while until it would random drop under 10 and die (while idling at a stop light). I took it in and had the distributor replaced and it hasn't done that since.

Now, a few months later, Im having more Idling issues. At a longer than usual stop light sometimes the car's RPM will just jump to 25ish, which makes the car want to take off. It typically idles at 10 or 15 unless it jumps to 25. When the car is turned on, in "Park", the RPM will climb continuously to 30+ unless I switch gears.

Whats the problem, does it simply need to be idled again or is there a deeper issue.

WOW!! You sound like you are going thru the same thing I did before and no one could ever figure it out..

I would be driving and usually when I am stopping at the light, or stopped idling.. Then all of a sudden the car would rev and MAX out in approx 5 seconds.. Would act like I was pressing the gas pedal down. I took it to like 10 shops and least 15 mechanics looked at it and all said the same thing, they found nothing wrong and would need to have it do it to them to be able to look what is causing it. It would happen like once or twice a year.. then disappear. Never came back.. I would be forced to turn the key OFF and sit in the middle of traffic.. I could turn the car on again and it would immediately rev straight up and I would have to turn the ignition off.. eventually it would fix itself..

The one thing that was asked was to see if the pedal itself was lowering but since it has yet to do it again, I don't know..
